Energy, energy, energy. This show would fvcking kill. And at this point we're all out of hip-hop headliners and these guys could fill that spot perfectly. The time has come!!!

Is Rage still big enough to headline? I mean, they headlined some festivals a few years ago, but that was coming off of momentum from a reunion. I could see them in a late night which set.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
Buffalo Springfield didn't headline, neither did Jay Z, is it that hard to believe that Rage or Soundgarden could be listed 4th on the bill?
I'm still holding my breath for Paul McCartney, Radiohead, and Neil Young and Crazy Horse, with Massive Attack playing latenight!
Rage is much bigger than Soundgarden.
Some people would disagree. I used to be a huge fan of both, back in middleschool and highschool, but neither of them do much for me anymore. Neither of them have released any new music recently, and they both released (IMO) their best album in 1996. If either of these bands were to cut a new album, filled with new music, that even slightly impressed people; then sure, they could definitely headline, but until then, I don't think they deserve the attention.
BTW, I feel the exact same way about all the post-grateful dead projects that have happened over the last 10 years, so I am used to people disagreeing with me on this.
Rage would be great. Last time I saw them was in 1999 in Atlanta. Live show sounded so good, I don't even like the CD's anymore. Late nite would be sweet, but they would probably demand to headline.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts
^I too think that Rage-aroo is inevitable. Those guys love fighting the power way to much for that KROQ show to be their last and final show they ever play as a band. There will still be wars/injustices going on and they'll still be pissed. As always...

If I say 'Gimmick' right here, I wonder how many people will hate me for it...

I think you meant to say they like money too much to stop playing shows.

Is that what it is? They like money way to much to stop playing? Is that why they haven't had an actual tour since Battle of Los Angeles? Because they know they could sell out every city they wanted, in turn making a ridiculous amount of cash? Seems like you clearly know what you're talking about...

Rage is bigger than Soundgarden and Buffalo Springfield but not as big as Jay-Z - but, I dunno, I don't really get the sense that Rage would be late night like I did with Jay-Z. Most likely, they would get an 11-12:30 timeslot like Eminem and Arcade Fire got this year.
To be honest, I could take or leave Rage Against the Machine - but then again, I could also say the same thing about 2/3rds of the headliners from just about any year of Bonnaroo. I was never super huge into them, but I liked them a decent amount when I was about 17-18. I haven't listened to them that much since that time, but I'd probably still enjoy their show if they played.

Duuuuude! That's pretty much the perfect top line, IMO. I think Ashley Capps should be required to run his headliner choices by you first.

I was actually being sarcastic about the whole cheesy "fighting the power" bit. Guess you guys didn't pick up on that...
Rage is and always will be one of the most politically active bands of all time. That we can never take away from them no matter how "gimmicky" it/they may seem.
And yes some people would hate you for that...

Plus Jay-Z had to fly in from the UK. That probably added to him starting later and having Stevie go on before him. And Rage is definitely bigger than Soundgarden and Buffalo Springfield.

Ignoring both the argument of Rage's gimmicktry/hypocrisy, and the foolishness of stating that Soundgarden's best album came out in 1996,
I like Soundgarden more, but Rage is bigger for sure. They've headlined absolutely everything they've played, so I can't see them not headlining Bonnaroo.

Allow me to correct myself.. My favorite Soundgarden was Superunknown, which came out in 1994. I just didn't buy it til 1996.
