I searched the site and didn't come up with anything on this subject (although admittedly I'm not really sure if I did it right). With all these great bands coming here, who do you think will bring the heat in terms of the visual aspect.
I have seen Phish's set up (wasn't at Hampton, but from what I understand the band added even MORE goodies to the light rig), TMV's setup (actually quite good), and Animal Collective's (also quite good- LED lights).
I've been told that the last NIN tour had an impressive setup. And of course, Pretty Lights- makes sense.
Just curious...I think we're getting spoiled this year in terms of the visual- but unfortunately we'll never have any of this on the farm:

Roger Waters from pink floyd has the best light show i have ever seen hands down. i have also seen allman brothers, radiohead, and tool, but none has come close to roger waters so far. Tool is a close second, they have a pretty good show i must admit, but any one who has seen both tool and roger waters has to agree with me. roger waters has awsome lights, a huge screen in the background, confeti, lasers, pyrotecnics, fog and mist all at the same time, not to mention the flying pigs and astronauts.
and the youtube videos really dont do it justice either!
I'm thinking Phish will be the best light show this year. Lots of fireworks and spectacle on top of all the light rigs they had at Hampton.
As far as my all-time favorite light rig, it's gotta be Radiohead's from this past tour. That was absolutely breathtaking.
Yeah, that really was. Really unique. I especially loved when they broke out the prismatic/multi-colored light scheme during Planet Telex, and the CCTV-esque projectors.
DMB had a really great couple of rigs a few years back, but nothing compared to ANY of the above. Phish Hampton lights were amazing... and hopefully they'll blow people away at Roo...
don't believe me? observe Split Open and Melt from 3/7/09 tinyurl.com/cz3c3u
Newsboys use the whole lighting crazy spectacle to make up for the fact that their music sucks goat testicles. They've been doing that for years. I saw em when I was in jr. high and even then they had the dude playing drums upside down.
Anyhow, yeah, Phish is gonna blow minds. I don't think most people realize how insanely perfect their light show is for what they do. That tension/release timed perfectly to the lights is something that has to be experienced to be believed.
Knowing what we for sure know, I expect Phish to have the best light show, this year... NIN's visuals will be great (as usual), but it'll be hard for many to accept whatever it is after the extravagance of Lights In The Sky.
OTT - If I were to rank the best light shows I've ever seen, it'd go something like this:
1. NIN (Lights In The Sky) 2. Ghostland Observatory 3. Tool (Roo/10,000 Days set up) 4. Nine Inch Nails (With Teeth arena tour setup) 5. Radiohead (Roo 06 set up)
Honorable mention: Legendary Pink Dots (Plutonium Blonde tour, only because it was in a very, very small venue and the sax had lights in and on it and he was walking around the audience)

I am going to tell you right here right now that the best visual shows this year will come from NIN and Phish, no questions about it. Pretty Lights, although is a good visual shows, will not even come close to the scale that NIN and Phish will bring. He is probably going to be playing in the Discoteque or so small tent. TV on The Radio will bring a good show as well.
Phish will visually blow you away with there shear amount of varying colors while NIN will bring a more technologically advanced show to the stage. Strobs, LED's Props, Etc.
So far without a doubt the best visual show in Bonnaroo history would probably be the Tool show in 2007. Bonnaroo needs more LASERS, everyone in the arena can enjoy. The Radiohead show was up there too.
Now Ghostland Observatory last year was right up there with the top visual Roo shows ever. They just have it on a smaller scale.

I can't speak for Tool or Phish, but Radiohead is the best light show I have seen. Idioteque and PA are amazing with it. PA with the rain down part is pretty cool and during FPT they turns green. Plus they're good for the environment!!

sorry, but if nin brings the lights in the sky set up( which i'm thinking is doubtful, but i'm wishing), then that will be the best. but i'm sure phish will be awesome too

I'm pretty sure the Lights In The Sky is no more, but it was amazing.

Radiohead's light show last year is my personal favorite. Not to mention at Lolla, there were fireworks in a field somewhere near Grant Park and you could see them behind the stage. This happened during Fake Plastic Trees and Everything In Its Right Place. It was like a ten minute orgasm.
