who were the lineup additions last year? anyone remember? i don't think they have really added anyone big in the last couple years. i know they use to have big adds, but i think the last time that happened was 06?
The last really big ones I can recall were '06 with Oysterhead and the Umph/Disco late night. I honestly don't know who they were last year (besides WSP).
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Last year's "big announcement" was Widespread and Les Claypool.
07's biggest additions (that I recall) were Ornette Coleman & David Bromberg.
forgot that les was added late. and wsp was added to replace someone. i'm just hoping we at least get an allman brothers add. but i don't know if they add that big anymore.

awesome. exactly what i was looking for. i just helped your karma a little bit.
Chris Rock main stage act was added a week after the initial announcement.
This is what we should be looking for-- will they continue to have an addition right before the on-sale, and if so, who?
As I recall...
'08 was Chris Rock. '07 was Umprey's/Bisco late night. '06 was Oysterhead. '05 was Trey late night.
well if thats the case then we would be gettin a press release today or tomorrow....im thinkin we wont get that this year with the line up and onsale date less then a week apart
so last year it broke down like this initial artist announcement-68 chris rock 18 main stage/tent acts added super jam 37 cafe acts 6 dj acts 12 somethin else acts 11 comedy acts
for a total of 154 acts
this year's initial artist announcement - 72 acts (counting phish twice) so we still have 15 or 16 main stage/tent adds cafe adds dj adds something else adds comedy adds
last year was my first year. does the something else tent always have a theme for the weekend? last year it was the new orleans tent, any ideas or wishes as to what it might be this year?

it was supposed to be like a ny jazz club in 07.new orleans theme last year.i imagine there will be a theme this year as well.

'07, its debut, didn't have a theme, although it was sponsored by Blue Note and featured all artists on their roster.
I would rather not have a theme; I like variation in my jazz. I wouldn't mind another label to sponsor it, but there are precious few good jazz labels left.
Anyone else expecting some additions next week? Looking at years past, most of the additions started in March, but I kinda have feeling we might get something earlier this year. Of course, that might all depend on how well tix are selling right now...
i hope sonic youth gets added. their new album is coming out the week of bonnaroo.
Coming June 9 : Sonic Youth’s ‘The Eternal’ Body: Sonic Youth’s 16th album, ‘The Eternal’, will be released on double vinyl, compact disc, and digital album by Matador Records on June 9. Produced by John Agnello and the band, ‘The Eternal’ not only marks Sonic Youth’s return to the independent label sphere (titles on their own SYR label excepted) after a long association with Geffen, but more importantly, ranks as one of their more inspired efforts in a 28 year career.
Recorded through November and December of last year at the band’s Echo Canyon West studio in Hoboken, NJ, ‘The Eternal’ features many firsts for a Sonic Youth album, including a number of shared vocals between Kim, Thurston, and Lee, and the studio debut of former Pavement/Dustdevils bassist Mark Ibold, a member of Sonic Youth’s touring band for the past few years.
The band’s current extracurricular activities are as always, quite varied. The Kunsthalle in Dusseldorf, Germany is now hosting the touring museum exhibition SONIC YOUTH ETC.: SENSATIONAL FIX, which focuses on the band’s multidisciplinary work since the band’s formation in 1981, including their collaborations with visual artists, filmmakers, designers and musicians. Kim Gordon launches a clothing line, Mirror/Dash, at Urban Outfitters on February 16, and is showing at The Armory Show in NYC March 5-8. Lee Ranaldo, with co-conspirator Leah Singer, just opened installations at the Konsthall in Stockholm and the CNEAI in Paris, and he has a piece in the travelling exhibition “Bad Moon Rising 3″, currently at Boots Contemporary Art Space in St. Louis. A Beck/Sonic Youth split 7″ is being released by Matador on April 18 for Record Store Day. And the band recently collaborated with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (along with former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones and mixed-media sound composer Takehisa Kosugi) on a work celebrating, and being performed for, Cunningham’s 90th birthday on April 16 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Upcoming SY shows include April gigs in Austria and Germany (including the closing of SENSATIONAL FIX in Dusseldorf) and May 16 at the No Fun Festival in Brooklyn. The will be touring throughout the summer in support of ‘The Eternal’.
More information on these and the many, many other activities since the 2006 release of their last album, ‘Rather Ripped’, can be found here.
Of ‘The Eternal’, Matador’s Gerard Cosloy says, “We’ve not had a record in our recent history that’s been the subject of nearly as much speculation and anticipation. Suffice to say we’re pretty amazed at the way the band delivered something this neoteric while still sounding like, well, themselves. Less of a reinvention and perhaps more to do with a particularly awesome dozen songs. ” Matador will shortly announce a Buy Early Get Now scheme for the album with some very interesting bonus material.
Sonic Youth are: Steve Shelley Lee Ranaldo Kim Gordon Thurston Moore Mark Ibold

what bands from waka do you think will get added?
I'm hoping for Matisyahu and Langhorne Slim... and not only am I hoping, but I'm thinking it's a very likely possibility.
Matisyahu collaborates with Trey, and he was just on Conan with Brett Dennen. Langhorne Slim came out with an album recently, and Matisyahu is releasing one soon. Langhorne played at the farm 2 years ago and Matisyahu was there 3 years ago... they are due for another appearance.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey

Nice to see how strong the first round was last year. I don't need anything from additions this year, but its still fun to get excited. I'm guessing a little longer wait, just because the initial lineup was so strong. 2/23 I'm guessing.

Very nice breakdown, Sangreal. It's good to know that 15 or so stage/tent acts are still to be annoucnced.
While at first, I was thinking the line-up addition might be kind of weak because the initial line-up was so strong. But now I'm thinking it doesn't make any sense to add 15 new acts that aren't on par with the rest of the line-up. It would of made more sense to hold off a couple mid-range acts from the current line-up to keep the buzz going.
So basically, I think AC has another trick or 2 up its sleeve
