Notice these guys are posting they'll be at Bonnaroo on multiple dates.

I assume this means that they will just be attending the festival as a fan, and not as a performer

This happened last year too. The schedule won't be set until the line-up is official. Bands, other than maybe the headliners, won't know when they're playing for a while, unless there's a scheduling issue and they can only play a specific day.

They always do that. They won't be naled down to one day until the schedule is officially released

Is it just me or have we had fewer rumors than in the past? I could swear that by December we had numerous bands being speculated to play 'Roo.

I dont feel like reading through this whole thread but I was just on last.fm and on Portugal the Mans page it says they are playing Roo 09. I would be very happy if this was true I have always wanted to see them but whenever they play nyc they're always opening for some Leno-y screaming band like the fall of troy or as tall as lions.

So I don't remember who played both Roo and Roth last year, but here is some speculation about Roth for this year:

"Speculation about the 2009 lineup so far includes a reunited Phish -- three quarters of the group performed briefly together on stage at the 2008 ROTHBURY. Other possible headliners might include Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, AC/DC, the Foo Fighters and Coldplay which are among the many bands currently touring and promoting recent compact discs.

McFann would not confirm organizers were negotiating with Phish or Petty, but she also declined to deny it. McFann promised several well-known groups and surprises would be part of a 2009 lineup."

I hope so too. They would know you couldn't keep your mouth shut...they do want people to know.

Oh, Dirty Jerzee--should we put this on the "rumored list" at the top of this thread?

I think the Phish rumor is much stronger now that they have announced those tour dates with the gap between NC and STL conveniently occurring around Roo

No I dont think you know what I'm talking about actually. I'm aware that the Phish and the Dead are too completely different bands (who DO play similar music in most cases). I just dont understand why with a festival like Bonnaroo, known for organizing shows with a wide variety of musical acts, all you want for headliners are Jam bands. It seems like overkill, I mean call me crazy, but seeing as that im paying a near 300 dollars for this festival I'd like some diversity in my headliners

^^^

But Bonnaroo was started as a festival with mostly jambands and was based upon the setup that Phish had. This is, in a way, celebrating its roots, which is very special for something so cherished and loved. It's like listening to Muddy Waters or Robert Johnson if you love the blues.

If you're paying near 300 dollars just for the headliners at Roo, then yes... something is definitely wrong with you :D

And to call Phish and the Dead similar music just shows a lack of in-depth listening of the two and thus just writing them both off as jambands and being done with it. Not a wise move in judging bands, sir :)
