So were almost 5 weeks out and I'm starting to get EXCITED!
Time to start putting back some dough.
The only thing I've read thus far is Sub Pop and some plans to rerelease the first Soundgarden 7", as well as 45's from CocoRosie, Happy Birthday & Male Bonding, an Album Leaf 12" and a cd comp of the Casual Nostalgia Fest they did a few years ago.

Let's try to use this thread to post about any unique or limited things that will be released on this day. I loved it last year. Waiting outside the record store to open....2nd in line. I grabbed 1 of 3 copies of MMJ - Celebracion de la Ciudad Natal (or whatever) as well as the 7" Dead Weather Single (Hang You From the Heavens) and the Wilco DVD Ashes of American Flags.

MORE GOOD NEWS: Coming up on Record Store Day, April 19 there will be even more reason for Hendrix happiness. Because among the titles being released exclusively for indie record stores on that day is this: LIVE @ CLARK UNIVERSITY, WORCHESTER, MA (March 15, 1968) a five track live album released just for record stores, just for that day!! What are those live tracks? Side A: Fire, Red House, Foxy Lady Side B: Purple Haze, Wild Thing (NOTE: As with all releases for Record Store Day, each individual store is responsible for bringing in their own stock, and will bring in what they choose. Also: most of these titles are extremely limited, so first come first serve is the rule of the day)

does this make us pals now nodepression? We both want the Flaming Lips release
Only if I get to wear the viking horns.
Just went to the record store and asked the owner to put the Flips and Modest Mouse release on hold for me because I won't be at home for Record Store Day, hopefully everything works out with that.

The Hold Steady will release under 700 vinyl copies in the US, and a very limited number in the UK of their new album ‘Heaven Is Whenever’ (Vagrant Records / Rough Trade) on April 17 as part of Record Store Day, complete with custom screen printed artwork. The extremely limited run of the album will only be available in independent record stores participating in Record Store Day. ‘Heaven Is Whenever’ will officially be released on CD, vinyl and digitally on May 3 / 4.

What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

The list of venues they have on the website shows 24 participating stores within Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. I'm almost tempted to wake up that morning, figure out a route on my subway map, and find every single one of those places on my own official Vinyliday Scavenger Hunt ;D
But at the very least, Academy Record Annex, Earwax Records, and Sound Fix are all within a few blocks of each other and less than a 10 minute walk from my apartment

its so close. i'm torn between two different record stores to hit up. the one I went to last year was a madhouse. i was second in line but people went running in and grabbing multiple copies of items that only had like 3 copies to begin with. I was lucky to grab the MMJ live vinyl and the first Dead Weather single but most everything else was gone in seconds. I think i'll try this new place that opened up. the owner is really cool and open about stuff and said he'd order more if i needed it.
i need that wilco - kicking television lp set. would be perfect.
I say go to the record store which is going to get less traffic and you have a positive experience with the owner.
yea that's the plan. it's a smaller place but i'm looking forward to going there with my list of wants either today or tomorrow and making sure they all get ordered. i wish i knew the prices on these things. i mean, i know what i'm definitely going to be buying and what i just kinda want.......but it'd be nice to figure out how much money i'm going to blow that day.
one small word of advice: album art - if you have a list of items you want i'd suggest trying to find out what the artwork will look like. i had no idea what the dead weather vinyl single looked like last year and almost missed grabbing the last copy because i didn't know what to look for.
of course this all depends on how your local store organizes stuff....but if they put it all together you'll want to know the general idea of what it looks like rather than trying to read text and stuff

Figuring out how to attack this is going to be tough. I might call some stores the day before to find out what they are getting in. FLips is my first priority. There are some thing I want, but don't expect to find (for example, the Beasties "surprise" and Asteroids Galaxy Tour single).
My biggest realistic desires:
1. FLips - DSOTM 2. Joe Strummer - Global A-Go-Go 3. Black Keys - Tighten' Up/Howlin' For You 4. Gorillaz - White Flag
If any of you don't get what you are looking for PM me. My local record shop participates but does not draw the crowds that it sounds like ya'lls local stores do (They still have about 10 vinyls of the live MMJ and 3 or 4 of the Dead Weather and Jack White singles from last year.)

4 Days!! Can't wait to hit the town Saturday morning. So far it looks as if I will be hitting 3 of the local record stores. Maybe one more if I have time.
Gotta save time in the day to listen to some of the new purchases.
