Is that 1,200 person show you are quoting the one in Chattanooga?
Providence, RI
Alright. Just checking. The Chattanooga show was 1,700 and sold out in 27 seconds according to the venue. I could have sold my tickets for $200 a piece on Stubhub.
I don't think they're going to be in MMJ's spot, but I can definitely see them as top 12. They have a history with Bonnaroo. The South is the center of their popularity. Since their last appearance, they have gotten a ton of crossover with them getting featured on CMT. They also have a new album coming out this Spring. I don't think they're that big in Europe which may be why you don't see top 12 as much.
I want to stop reading this thread as I really do want to be surprised by the lineup, but..... Work has been so fucking slow since xmas, and I have been board outta my mind at my desk and need something to kill time.
Not to mention, MMJ was #1 on last year's Waka lineup and they were #6 on Bonnaroo's. The Avetts are #2 on Waka's lineup, so I imagine (like Bacon said) they'll be around the 8th or 10th name on the lineup. If we get, say, Radiohead, Phish, RHCP, The Beach Boys, Drake, The Roots, The Shins, and Bon Iver, I think they'll be below all those names (save for MAYBE The Shins and Bon Iver), putting them in the 7th-9th range.
I expect better from you, Juggs. You can't tell me that you like so few bands that from the denials we have there are not enough bands left to make a good undercard
Oh, I'm not actually complaining about the undercard. I'm just saying, I can see why people would be bummed when some of these denials come in. Like, I thought M83 was a no-brainer for Bonnaroo this year. They're blowing up, put on a killer live show, etc. So when they get confirmed as playing elsewhere that weekend, it's a bummer because that's one of the bands that would have made the weekend for me.
I'm not trashing the undercard (actually because some of what we know/suspect so far makes me really stoked, like the Roots, Battles, the Antlers), but I can see why people are bummed when bands that would be a "must see" for them are confirmed as out.
I know what you mean. I'm still holding out the tiniest sliver of hope for M83, even though their booking manager denied it. We e-mailed the booking agent a while ago, so things could've changed between then and now. Plus, M83 haven't announced any dates yet for that weekend (although they will be in Europe the next weekend after).
It's extremely unlikely, but I'm still holding out a tiny bit of hope. That would be an epic late night. Battles > M83.

Yeah but they're already playing Nashville in May. So seems like they won't be there..
If a few bands you like not being at Bonnaroo = "Who the hell is coming to TN in June that anyone has actually heard of" you need to listen to some more music because chances are there will be over 100 bands the people have actually heard of.
I agree. I was being overly dramatic. That list of denials is just so much longer than the list of confirmed!
Why is everyone expecting The Roots to be billed so high? 2003 they were 11th 2007 they were 18th And they haven't exactly "blown up" since 2007. They're Jimmy Fallon's house band. There's no way they'd be top 10.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
"They're Jimmy Fallon's house band" would be enough reason for them to be billed higher I would think. They have national exposure on a nightly basis thanks to that gig. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong about that.

Being on Jimmy Fallon is a big deal and so is their most recent album that got fantastic reviews and was on many "Best of 2011" lists.

Well there are thousands of bands that people would mostly agree could potentially play Roo and only 100 something that actually play. I would say confirm/denial we are actually hitting a pretty high percentage.

Oh yea, completely agree. Its bound to be longer every year.
this thread need to be retitled to the "artist direct denial thread", not complaining, i'm actually happy a lot of these bands are denying they'll be there, it leaves more room for ac to spend money on at the drive in
Apparently Nodepression and Karosko hate fun. Franti is a great show to go to and enjoy yourself. Not everything needs to be Neo-French-synth-post-elctro-fusion with Avant-Garde art-folk influence.
