I'm sure this has been mentioned, but I think insider's ambiguity about headliner statuses almost confirms that Phish (or perhaps someone else) will be doing another special LN set. I think it's Phish LN on Friday, preceded by RHCP on What and The Beach Boys on Which in opposing sets. Your thoughts...
I could see this too I suppose, I just feel like RHCP is too big for a non-latenight, non-headlining set.

Radiohead | Phish (2 shows) | Red Hot Chili Peppers | The Beach Boys Paul Simon | Atoms For Peace | The Raconteurs | Florence + The Machine | The Roots
Friday WHAT: Paul Simon (6.30-8) -> Radiohead (9-11) WHICH: Atoms For Peace LN (2-4)
Saturday WHAT: Florence + The Machine (6.30-8) -> Red Hot Chili Peppers (9-11) -> Phish LN (1-4) WHICH: The Roots (6.30-8.45)
Sunday WHAT: The Beach Boys (5.30-7) -> Phish (8-11.30) WHICH: The Raconteurs (6.30-8)
One has to think that there will be an Atoms for Peace show of some kind.
If there isnt, then Roo is missing a golden opportunity. The two biggest pieces will already be there. A new album is coming out sometime in 12'. Plus Yorke is never shy about playing album material far in advance of release dates. I'd have to think. I have to believe. Everything is great.

I agree. But people felt the same way about The Beastie Boys in '09.

Actually a third member of Atoms for Peace plays percussion for RHCP, and I think the other two would be relatively easy to get there. I wouldn't get my hopes up at all but it's totally possible.
It would be cruel, yes, but Coachella and Lollapalooza put people against their headliners every year. I remember an article back from 2009 Coachella commenting on how there was, literally, not really anyone at the bands playing opposite of Paul McCartney.
Right, and if Jay-Z can have a set that is only unopposed for a half hour then Radiohead can have one thats unopposed for half the set methinks. And Jay-Z is an even bigger commercial draw than Radiohead is
I have to strongly disagree here. Jay-Z does not come close Radiohead in commercial draw. Jay-Z doesnt headline festivals unless no one better is touring. Jay-z does not make national news when he comes to town the world over. When it comes to festivals Radiohead is top tier event, even at Glastonbury.

I have to say, when I first saw insider's post before reading everyone's reactions I was super skeptical due to that parenthetical phrase. But I'm now convinced that she had to mean RHCP opening for Phish. As everyone's pointed out, Radiohead is the ONLY BAND that could even LOOSELY headline that we've mentioned a lot and is a R-vowel-D band.
Friday: The Shins (6-7:30)>Radiohead (8:30-11) Saturday: RHCP (8-10)>Phish (11-2) Sunday: The Beach Boys (6-8)>Phish (9-12)
I would even put Paul Simon performing Graceland in preheadlining for RHCP on Saturday (say, 5-7), but that'd be asking too much I think

I'm pretty sure Jay-Z headlined Glastonbury and Coachella

I still think Radiohead will be #1 on the bill, but guessing from RHCP's two consecutive dates before Friday and those rumored Phish dates, I'm guessing Radiohead will be the 1st #1 headliner in a while (ever?) to play Friday.
I could see Bonnaroo booking RHCP as the third headliner (with Roo suggesting Fri night), RHCP saying they'd love to but something along the lines of, "we have shows booked that Wed and Thurs, can we do it Saturday instead?" Then Bonnaroo saying, ah well, screw it, we'll have our #1 headliner Friday this year instead of Saturday. Big deal.

I guess let me clarify. Jay-z headlined coachella in a year where Muse and Gorillaz where the top 3 and a year when Glastonbury headliners were KoL and The Verve. So Jay-z can headline in a weak year for touring artist but in year like this one he wouldnt come close to being at the top of even Jazz Fest? There are very very few artist that would headline over Radiohead that are currently touring.

Also, I'd like to point out that as far back as LAST YEAR (even before the lineup drop last year), RHCP drummer Chad Smith was hinting in interviews at RHCP being booked by Bonnaroo. Guy must really not be able to keep his mouth shut. We all assumed that meant for a 2011 appearance, maybe it was for a 2012 appearance.
Not to mention that THE MOM ON A TRAIN LIVES.
(All that being said, I do think it's just a strange coincidence that all three of these bands were heavily rumored last year and all ended up there this year. I don't think they nail down even the headliners 100% that early.)
OK, so there are 2 bands "headlining" (I use that term relatively loosely) both of who's names begin with an 'R', followed by a vowel, followed by a D - as some of you have correctly speculated after my last post.
Ok, I am tired of this thread running away from me before I can gather my thoughts and put them down. Here is the deal:
Its pretty obvious that RHCP and Radiohead are who she is referring to. She has confirmed Phish.
That gives us 3 major acts. Radiohead, Phish, RHCP. So far, this is the logical consensus.
Now, her wording above " "headlining" (I use that term relatively loosely)" leaves some mystery.
As I understand it, insider does NOT really post cryptic/puzzling information. RHCP and Radiohead are, in most people's opinions not LOOSE headliners, they are SOLID headliners (like them or not). So the part where she said "relatively loosely" is TELLING. Quite telling, I believe. If they are the HEADLINERS, then its obviously
Radiohead - Phish - RHCP (or whatever order), but that can not be the case based on what she said.
So, knowing full well and good that Bonnaroo can make magical things happen like they did in 2008 (and arguably 2010), that they have the MONEY and PULL to do something amazing, and right now Coachella (even with this top 3 of RH, RHCP and Phish) looks like it has the edge for sure - They may pull something off that will rock the world.
Here are some other interesting factoids:
Phish is rumored to drop their tour schedule on Feb 7th. They are either 1) going to have an OBVIOUS gap in their lineup until Roo releases a week to a week and a half later, or 2) The Bonnaroo lineup gets dropped on the 7th as well.
Oh, by the way? Paul McCartney's new CD drops on the 7th.
He's played Coachella, and Glastonbury. Its time for him to come to Roo. It just is. The timing is right, and they can make it happen.
Oh, and that pushes RHCP to the 2nd line.
******to who it may concern: If they do not add any more headliners, I will be totally thrilled to buy my ticket, and I will have an amazing time. I am not setting myself up for disappointment. I am already ecstatic. Even I know that adding McCartney would be over the top. But why can't we have 'over the top' this year? They can make it up to us for wasting all that money and time and everything on a totally lame Eminem set. So yeah. There that is.
Now Im sure I have 4 more pages to read since typing this out

i agree with this, no different then 2010. Stevie(the sat headliner billed #3) with Jay-Z following him. And our #1 being on sun.
this year #3 act(rhcp) playing into another top line act(phish), but this year our #1 is on fri.
from insiders initial tease about the R followed by vowel band, i thought we were getting both, and I suggested that it was still possible even after we concluded RHCP were likely for sat.

They don't nail them down but I'm sure they continually work on getting them. I wouldn't be surprised if they're already planning out/talking to bands for the 2013 headliners.

Dude.. Muse and Gorillaz at Coachella is NOT a weak year. Those are AMAZING headliners.
And The Verve are gigantic in UK so they are a very big headliner for Glasto.
