I would not have a problem with U2. Bono can be a bit of an idiot, but they would still put on a great show. Hell I already have tickets for their show here in July (which was actually supposed to have taken place this past July).
Most already know how little I think of U2 (After the Joshua Tree, all down hill in my opinion. This is just MY opinion. Spouting off horrible u2 songs will not make me change my mind)
That being said, I must admit....

My opinion of U2 is closer to madmanpondo's, but while I am not a U2 fan I do think it would make since to have them at Roo. They draw a big crowd and since so many people (including a lot on this board) like their music I can't say it is all garbage. Just not my cup of tea.

Not a huge U2 fan, but it's one of those bands I think you have to see live to really appreciate. Are they my first choice? Nooooooooooooooooo. But I'd enjoy their show. Their last few singles have been like nails on a chalkboard though...
I just recently saw that movie It Might Get Loud and it was pretty awesome, The Edge is such a tool though. I'd really rather them not headline.
I thought that Jack White seemed like an overeager boy trying to show the adults in the room how cool and indie he was.

Yes, the Edge is more of a tech wizard when it comes to guitars than raw skill - but who cares? Is the point to make sounds that invoke emotions in people or is it strictly based on raw talent and skill.
I don't see the threads clamoring for Yngwie Malmsteen, so I will have to guess the answer is the former, and not the latter.
If/when U2 shows up, and if you let them in with no pretense, I can almost guarantee you will have a good show.

a few years ago i would not be down for U2 at Roo (hey that rhymes) but at this point I dont think there are a whole lot of better options available for a slot of that status. And as much as ive gotten away from them over the years, i love the joshua tree and rattle and hum so it would be worth it just to hear with or without you or where the streets have no name live

if only the could get Led Zeppelin,U2,The White Stripes...a Jack White,Edge,Page super jam would be solid.. I did dig Lez Zeppelin in 08, I wonder if Robert Plant was there on Thursday to check them out?

I wouldn't pay to see U2, but I wouldn't mind them being at 'roo. I would check out some of their set from a comfy spot in the back before resting up for late night. Sadly, I don't expect to be thrilled by bonnaroo's headliners. Pre-08 headliners blow me away, but there was only a few I was excited about in the past three years. I hope they get creative for the anniversary.

I know from the business perspective it makes a lot of sense to AC/Superfly, but I feel like having U2 as a headliner would only strengthen the feelings I've had on and off recently about Bonnaroo's choice of headliner direction: safe, artistically mediocre figureheads of an outdated form of anthem rock that seems completely outdated.
I can dig some U2 tracks, but seriously, it almost seems like it would be a waste of a headliner slot.
You're an idiot. Bonnaroo hasn't really had any headliners who weren't "safe," because they're not going to take a risk on the biggest band playing a festival that costs millions to put on. They're not going to throw Umphrey's McGee up on the Which Stage at 9:00 PM Friday night and take a bath to the tune of thousands of unsold tickets just to appease your filthy hippie bullsh*t.
Stop trying to pretend like they've ever taken a risk and not booked "safe, artistically mediocre" bands. Bands like f*cking WSP, the Dead, Phil Lesh, Trey Anastasio, etc. are about as fitting of that description as you can get. The only time they've ever broken from this mold was for Radiohead and Tool, and maybe Neil Young.
In conclusion, I hope you choke to death on a McRib sandwich.
