"A throne one cannot abdicate, of which a crab can make a fort."
To me this part isn't 2 seperate things but rather one in the same.
The king/queen is the ceremonial "head" of state who hold their title/rank/dignity even after death. Combined with the oyster crab that use oysters for protection. head and oyster = oysterhead

gaaaaaahd I hope so, they said they were pullin out some big shit for 2010 this would please so many people
I think we're looking at the word "fort" the wrong way. They have specifically said fort, and not "home". So why would a crab need a fort? For defense or war or something like that.
What about Buckethead? He jammed w/ Les in 02', would that make him a veteran for Roo? Buckethead is his "character"? Also, I read someplace that crabs like to hang out in tide pools for the high plankton count. He has songs called Tide Pool, and Shell Substitution on his album Albino Slug. Maybe that's the crab fort reference?
This seems really good. Les could easily be the first part of the clue and a throne you cant abdicate as said earlier could be a toilet or head. And a bucket could be a crab fort, and they are in reverse order to rhyme.

If Oysterhead they must play "Oz Is Ever Floating" a musical tribute to Dr. john C. Lilly and inventor of the Sensory Deprivation/Floatation Tank a device I subject myself to on occasion. A device so strange that when I described it and my Masters Thesis working with it Boot permenentaly banned me from Inforoo Chat. And a last little bit of revnge for my banning. If Les Claypool salutes the use of them then I can never be wrong can I folks?

Dr. Lilly could talk to whales and dolphins. I bet a dolphin could correctly answer all clues with one, brief "chirp." Lilly is fictionalized in the movie, "Altered States."
I mentioned this before, but I've amended my theory... what about Justice?
1) A "justice" is a magistrate.
2) The band often goes by the symbol "†"... a character "of sorts", using the definition: "sort - characters of a particular font that are rarely used". Crosses as font characters are rarely used.
3) They're veterans of the electronic music scene having remixed lots of Roo artists. They're veterans of the festival scene having played tons of festivals (not Roo though).
4) They're from Versailles, France, home of the Palace of Versailles. Since the Palace and throne still exist but there's no longer a monarchy in France, the throne can't be abdicated as there's nobody to abdicate.
5) Versailles means "to keep turning over". When a crab finds a home, it eventually outgrows it and moves on to another one... the ocean's version of a house flipper.
I mentioned this on the first page but could the veteran and magistrate be Elvis? He served in the army and he is "the king". Maybe we need to look for someone who has played the character of Elvis in a movie. The only person that I can think of off the top of my head is Jack White.
A veteran and magistrate, or a character of sorts. A throne one cannot abdicate, of which a crab can make a fort.
(thanks stevoknievo)
Ok for the first time this year I am going to try to help. I am going to try to take this in another direction from what is already here and it is very much a theory to be built off of with many different directions.
First of all what throne can not being given up and would make a fort for crabs? Possibly the throne of Poseidon. Described on various sites to contain various types of stone and coral, a good crab fort. Also the throne of Poseidon is that of a God which I imagine would not be abdicate-able.
So now how to relate "A veteran and magistrate, or a character of sorts" to Poseidon. First thing that comes to mind is King Triton in Little Mermaid which always seemed like Poseidon to me and is a character of sorts (an animated one) voiced by Kenneth Mars. Kenneth Mars has played various roles that are involved in military and law enforcement qualifying the veteran and magistrate. Don't really know where to go from there. Bruno Mars?
I'm going to re-post this since it was completely ignored.

A Coco for you riburro. I have all of Lilly's books in addition to the movie Altered Sates @ home in my personnal collection. I am a psychology major and intend on exploring further uses for the floatation tanks in biofeedback applications . I recently floated last September for my birthday in Chicago. Had a few Roo goodies I saved for my birthday party got into the float tank and immediatly went to see Roger Water from Pink Floyd do "THE WALL" that night was epic. Congratulations on your knowledge of the man who in my view is as dear to me as Nikola Tesla should be to an electrtion. He was just 100 years ahed of his time. And that is why I feel I was banned Boot thought I was screaming nonsense when contrary to that I was talking above his level. Kind of like Galeileo in Medevil Europe or Tesla to people in the 1800's about wireless technology. Savour your Coco I will reward you with more.

And yes he did pioneer the technology to communicate with other sentient beings i.e. Dolphins and Whales. It is a shame he was held back by the slow computers available to him at the time. But he set up the groundwork for the rest. The man is my personnal academic hero and a source of much inspiration for my future school work.

Is it either Robert Plant or Jimmy Page w/ the Black Crowes?
Their symbols from Led Zeppelin IV would qualify under the "character of sorts" and both would be Bonnaroo veterns (Crowes qualify with Page) and the Crowes have been labeled "The Most Rock 'n' Roll Rock 'n' Roll Band" (throne). Although I still don't know what the magistrate and crab parts mean.

first time poster here. i have followed prettty closely to all 4 clues and read basically every post so im caught up atleast with the news and guesses and what not although i havent posted earlier because you are all way ahead of me. However i am posting now because i dont see y oysterhead isnt still a viable option. gary basically said that" The veteran, the magistrate and the character are the same person" but with a sort of at the end. how could that not still be referring to Les Claypool? and he only said that the justice guess was no good
